The Position:
To support our continued growth and success, we are seeking a Database Developer to work in our production and development operational environments with responsibilities for carrying out database development projects, configuration, reporting, data analysis and production support.
The ideal candidate will have ability to deliver top notch database development solutions in our operational environment; navigate and analyze volumes of data for end user report development; carry out data analysis and ad-hoc query requirements in a DB2/Linux environment; and finally possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess the keen desire to succeed in a small company environment.
Your Challenge:
- Use your database design and modeling experience to create and implement highly efficient and scalable database solutions as part of data team initiatives and as part of the overall software development team in a DB2/Linux environment
- Carry out database development tasks related to the ongoing support and management of the production database including but not limited to data driven configuration requests, batch processing, problem investigation and analysis
- Use your extensive knowledge of the SQL language to produce highly efficient and fast SQL reporting and ad-hoc query implementations
- Assist the team in digging into database performance problems as we scale to meet the demands of our ever growing client list. Critical to succeeding in this task will be using your knowledge of database performance tuning techniques and index usage and optimization
- Jump between database and scripting tools and technologies (bash/python etc.)
- Use your excellent problem solving and communication skills to navigate through complex business rules, competing priorities and deadlines
- Work seamlessly with the various business units within Ethoca (Finance, Sales, Customer Service, Marketing, Development and Operations) in order to fulfill each unit’s reporting and analysis requirements
- Thrive in a highly collaborative and intimate environment where agility is paramount
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Minimum 3 years of database development, reporting and data analysis experience. Past development experience preferably in a DB2 environment is a plus.
- Solid SQL skills with a wide exposure and hands on experience with a wide variety of SQL query language elements and SQL programming constructs
- Sound knowledge and experience working with DDL concepts such as primary keys, foreign keys, triggers, constraints etc.
- Proven experience in data modeling for efficient and robust end to end database solutions
- Database reporting and analysis experience including canned report development, maintenance, execution and scheduling; ad-hoc query development and data analysis for development scoping and root cause problem investigations
- Hands on database unit testing development experience
- Experience with data integration tools and technologies
- Quick learner with the ability to pick up new ideas and concepts quickly
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working in a highly motivated and collaborative team environment

- eCommerce industry experience with specific knowledge of CNP fraud, data and reporting
- You have a passion for database technologies and a desire to enhance your SQL and database skills
