Job Details:
The Assistant Resident Engineer provides construction supervision services of roads, structures and utilities aspects of the project to ensure that the design documentation is safely and accurately implemented on site, and that the requirements of the construction contract are followed.
The Assistant Resident Engineer will report to the relevant Resident Engineer responsible for the Expressways project, and supervises the works inspectors.
Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
● Assist the Resident Engineers in performing the contractual duties on site.
● Assist the Resident Engineers in the management and direction of a team of Inspectors for the supervision of the construction of the Expressways designs.
● Assists the Resident Engineer in reporting on progress, safety, financial recommendations, quality control and design modifications.
● Builds a trusted relationship with the management team and with the client’s counterpart staff.
● Establishes an appropriate working relationship with the contractors.
● Places an emphasis on safe construction practices (Target Zero) and on maintaining a high quality of construction. Leads by example in driving safe practices on site.
● Assists the Resident Engineers in monitoring progress of construction against the programme, and takes steps to ensure the programme is achieved.
● Ensures that the project quality control procedures are used for the supervision works and monitors it for improvement. Cooperates with audits required in accordance with the contract requirements and Halcrow’s internal systems.
● Contributes to the safety and build-ability reviews of the proposed designs.
● Evaluates, selects, and adapts construction management and control techniques, procedures, and criteria to suit job tasks, and devises and implements solutions to problems encountered.
● Ensures that the Construction Supervision team members effectively identify, manage and report project risks.
Minimum Qualifications
Recent previous experience (within last 5 years) as an Assistant Resident Engineer for major highway projects that are complex in nature, and are ideally located in the Middle East region.
Minimum 10 year’s post graduate experience in the design, site supervision and construction management of major highways projects.
Have a BSc in Civil Engineering from an internationally recognized and accredited university.
Understand the aspects of site supervision and construction management of complex highways projects.
Be enthusiastic about improving the safety performance of site operations in Qatar.
Be able to communicate effectively with site teams and motivate them to meet the project objectives.
Good leadership skills, and be able to work in a multi-cultural and multi-discipline team.
Excellent communication and report writing skills, and good presentation skills in English.
Good computer skills also essential
