Actuarial Assistant | Foresters- Toronto, Canada

Job Details:
The Corporate Actuarial department at Foresters is looking for an aspiring individual who is looking for a challenging actuarial development opportunity. The Actuarial Assistant/Analyst will work closely with senior actuarial staff in a dynamic environment and will gain exposure across a wide range of actuarial disciplines including financial modeling, valuation, management reporting, insurance/annuity products and fraternal benefits analysis for both Canada and the U.S. The successful candidate will utilize leading edge technology including AXIS actuarial modeling software, business intelligence tools and an enterprise data warehouse.
Key responsibilities/accountabilities
*.Perform valuation of actuarial liabilities on Canadian and U.S. business for the Canadian financial statement (IFRS).
*.Support identification and quantification of risks associated with both insurance contracts and investments.
*.Incorporate new products and new regulations into the valuation process. This involves understanding the characteristics and the valuation implications of new/modified products or regulations and includes specification and testing of valuation programs for these products.
*.Implement and support interpretation of results of studies for valuation assumptions (e.g. mortality, lapse and other experience studies).
*.Identify and implement process improvements to drive ongoing value from department reporting and analysis.
*.Perform work for other department responsibilities such as business planning, earnings by source, DCAT (dynamic capital adequacy testing), U.S. cash flow testing, MCCSR (minimum continuing capital and surplus requirements), U.S. RBC (risk-based capital), and ALM (asset and liability management).
*.Prepare appropriate documentation consistent with professional actuarial standards and in compliance with all applicable legislation.
*.Entry level actuarial student with a university degree in actuarial science commited to pursuing the FSA and FCIA designations.
*.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
*.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
*.Strong analytical and technical skills.
*.Experience with AXIS, Datalink, Hyperion and Microstrategy is desirable but not required.
