Position summary:
This position is responsible for reconciling and filing less complex state and local taxes and returns. The tasks included in this process include the reconciliation of PeopleSoft reports, tax disbursements and the Empower tax returns. The position also researches and prepares responses to inquiries from taxing agencies and submits the responses to the Tax Supervisor for review prior to release. The clerical function of tax mail receipt, logging and distribution is also performed by this individual.
Responsibilities:
*.Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual state and local tax returns for less complex taxing jurisdictions utilizing PeopleSoft reports and Empower software. These returns must be accurate and be completed by the taxing jurisdiction’s published due dates. Also includes the voucher preparation for tax disbursements to ensure that payments are received by established due dates.
*.Performs tax account reconciliations for all assigned state and local tax agencies.
*.Researches out-of-balance conditions and presents results to Tax Supervisor. Corrects reconciliation errors where needed. Researches inquiries from assigned taxing jurisdictions regarding prior tax filings and remittances. Prepares abatement letters with supporting documentation and submits to Tax Supervisor prior to mailing.
*.Opens tax mail. Logs correspondence into the STARS mail tracking database and distributes to other Tax Analysts.
Qualifications
Education:(degree / diploma)
*.HS, Bachelors Degree desired
Experience:
*.Minimum of 2 Years Payroll Tax Preparation Experience
Knowledge and skills:(general and technical)
*.Strong fundamental knowledge of payroll tax rules and regulations
*.Good Computer Skills – including MS Excel, Word, and Lotus Notes
*.Good Analytical Skills
Other requirements:(licenses, certifications, specialized training)
*.Payroll Certification desired..
